1,214,766. Making spark erosion electrodes; soldering; spark erosion. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 Sept., 1969 [14 Sept., 1968], No. 44947/69. Headings B3A, B3R and B3V. A spark erosion electrode unit for making a plurality of spaced apertures is made by forming a stack of tantalum electrodes 1 and molybdenum intermediate layers 2 having interposed silver layers 3, soldering the layers 1, 2 together by heating the stack under pressure in vacuo or an inert atmosphere until the silver melts and penetrates into the pores of the layers 1, 2, machining the stack to form suitable electrode surfaces and removing the intermediate layers 2 by etching to a suitable depth from the surfaces. The silver layers 3 may be in the form of foils or silver coated molybdenum strips 2 may be used. The electrode unit can be used to form a slotted grating.
