Abstract

1,214,539. Valves. COMMERCIAL SHEARING & STAMPING CO. 29 May, 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 25841/68. Heading F2V. An hydraulic slide valve has a pair of inlet chambers 18, 19 co-operating with a piston 16 provided with internal check valves 50, 57, and a chamber 23 to provide for alternate flow paths in which either both chambers 18, 19 are connected to part 30 to provide for parallel operation of a set of rams, e.g. on a mechanical excavator (not shown), or chamber 18 only is connected to provide for series operation of the rams. With piston 16 in the neutral position shown chambers 31, 32 are blocked and fluid entering chambers 18, 19 exhausts from the valve through chambers 20, 22. Movement of the piston to the right (Fig. 4, hot shown) blocks flow between chambers 18, 19 and 20, 22, whilst permitting flow through openings 46 to the interior of the piston where the pressure opens check valve 50 to allow the fluid to flow through openings 48 into chamber 31 and out of port 28. Return flow enters the valve through port 30 and chamber 32 from where it flows through openings 55 into the piston interior from where it will pass either through openings 54 in chamber 22 or through openings 53 into chamber 20, depending on the position of downstream valves (not shown). Movement of the piston to the left (Fig. 5, not shown) isolates chambers 18, 19 from each other and from chamber 31. Fluid thus flows from chamber 18 into the piston interior through openings 53, opens check valve 57 and flows to chamber 32 and port 30 via openings 56. Fluid also flows from chamber 19 through openings 54 into the piston interior and thence through openings 55 into chamber 22 to provide, together with the flow from port 30, parallel downstream flow. Return flow enters port 28 and chamber 31, opens check valve 50 and flows through openings 48 to exhaust via passage 34. Fig. 6 (not shown) illustrates the use of this valve in a common valve block with the valves described in U.S.A. Specification 3,329,169 and Specification 1,214,073.
