1,213,662. Hydraulic reciprocating pumps and motors. DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Dec.27, 1967 [Feb.23, 1967; Sept.26, 1967], Nos.8709/67 and 43716/67. Heading F1A. A swash-plate pump or motor comprises an integral casting, e.g. of aluminium alloy, forming an open-ended casing 7 and a valve face 2, a cylinder block 8, e.g. of cast iron, being located in the casing by engagement with valve face 2 and by engagement of a bearing surface 14 in the casing with a bearing surface 13 on the block. Integral lugs 18 on the casing have apertures for one or more shafts 19 carrying the swash-plate 21, which may be of fixed or adjustable inclination. Spring- loaded pistons 25 engage the swash-plate through ball jointed slippers 29, which may be hydraulically balanced and are held against the swash-plate by a retaining plate 36. A spring 43 acts to bias plate 36 towards the swash-plate and block 8 towards the valve face. As a pump, the unit is immersed in a reservoir and supported by bolts engaging threaded apertures in end 6 of the casing. Liquid enters the open end of the casing and is pressurized by centrifugal action while passing through block passages 15 and casing space 16, which may have a guide vane. From space 16, the liquid enters a recess 17 in registration with cylinder ports 12. The liquid is discharged through port 3. A splined aperture 45 is provided for engagement by a drive shaft, e.g. of an electric motor. Assembly is effected by inserting the block in the casing, inserting the piston assemblies and plate 36, locating swash-plate 21 in position, and inserting shaft 19 through lugs 18 and the swash-plate, the shaft axis being offset from the block axis. Spring clips hold shaft 19 in position Fig.2 (not shown). For motor operation, port 3 is used for the highpressure supply and means other than passages 15 are provided for the discharged liquid.
