Abstract

1,213,379. Compressing rope. NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKY I OPYTNO-KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT AVTOMATIZATSII CHERNOI METALLURGII. 27 Nov., 1968 [11 Dec., 1967], No. 56234/68. Heading D1T. A taper sleeve 2 is secured to the rope 1 by first compressing a part of the rope protruding from sleeve 2 by means of a loop 4 of flexible material. One end of 4 is connected to a fixed support 3 and the other to the rod 5 of a piston 9 of a hydraulic cylinder 6. The two spaces 7 and 8 of cylinder 6 communicate via a reducing valve 12 and are connected via slide valve arrangement 16 to a hydraulic system. When spaces 7 and 8 communicate the rod 5 may be manually raised to loosely put the loop 4 on rope 1. The rope is compressed by shutting off space 8 from the hydraulic system so that liquid is supplied to space 7 to provide the compressing force. Wedges are then inserted axially between the layers of wire 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 to give the end of rope 1 a diverging shape. Taper sleeve 2 is moved axially along rope 1 thereby removing loop 4 and engaging the diverging end of rope 1.
