Abstract
1,212,845. Stencilling-apparatus. SOC. ANON. VERRERIES MECANIQUES CHAMPENOISES. 21 Nov., 1967 [30 Nov., 1966], No. 53011/67. Heading B6C. In a silk screen printing machine for multicolour decoration of frusto-conical articles A such as bottles, goblets and tumblers, each article is mounted in a rotatable work-holder 7 carried by an endless conveyer 6 below a series of stationary screens 8a, &c., with each of which the articles are brought into rolling contact, ink being pressed through the screens by squeegees 9a &c., which reciprocate at such a speed as to follow the line of contact between an article and a screen as it travels across the screen. Each article is held between a cap (30), Fig. 5 (not shown), which is pivotable between a loading and unloading position and an operative position, and a face plate (32) which is continually rotated by a pinion (38) fixed thereto and engaging a rack (39) extending the length of the chassis 3 on which the conveyer is mounted. The diameter of the pinion is made equal to the mean diameter of the article to be decorated, in order to register the impressions. The drive for the squeegees and for the conveyer is derived from a single motor (21), Fig. 1 (not shown), acting through a gear-box (24), the squeegee being reciprocated by a carriage (71), Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), having a cam follower (70) which engages a cam groove (67a) in a rotating drum (67), one revolution of the drum corresponding to one reciprocation of the squeegee. Different sizes and shapes of articles can be accommodated. The chassis 3 can be tilted about an axis 4 by screws 5 to angles dependent on the taper of the articles, the silk screens and squeegees can be raised and lowered, and the pinions exchanged to accommodate articles of different mean diameter, and the distance between the cap and face plate of each working head can be varied to fit articles of different lengths. The screens can also be moved longitudinally or transversely, with respect to the travel of the conveyer. Each screen may consist of a fine wire gauze whose meshes are blanked off except for a region corresponding to the design to be printed. In modifications, the squeegee may be temporarily fixed to the conveyer belt when the work head reaches the squeegee and each decoration section could include a plurality of squeegees.
