Abstract

In an arrangement in which two pumps 5, 6 deliver pressure to their respective loads, e. g. the ram system and traction motor of a mechanical shovel, along respective lines 21, 25 and through respective valves 28, 29, delivery is automatically controlled by a device in which a stepped piston 8, acted on by a spring 12, bears against a pushrod 14 acted on by a second spring 17, and a second piston 18, passing through the stepped piston 8, is integral with or connected to the pushrod 14. Working spaces 9, 10 and 19 are defined by the stepped piston 8 and the piston 18 respectively. The delivery line 21 is connected to the working space 10 and the delivery line 25 is connected to working spaces 9 or 19 according to the setting of a valve 23. Stroke adjusters 7, 16 of the pumps 5, 6 are operated by the members 18, 14 respectively. When the working spaces 9 and 10 are pressurized the piston 8 and the pushrod 14 move together so that delivery of both pumps is equally regulated. Pressurization of the working space 19, however, temporarily moves the pushrod 14 away from the stepped piston 18 and causes independent regulation of the pumps as described in the Specification. A valve 30 is connected between the two delivery lines 21, 25 so that both pumps may, if so required, deliver to the same load. The valve 23 may be manually positioned or may be adjusted to change setting at a predetermined pressure. One pedal may operate the valves 29, 30 and 23 in a described frequency.
