Abstract

1,212,231. Vehicle headlamps. PROJECTEURS CIBIE. 16 Feb., 1968 [28 Feb., 1967; 3 Jan., 1968], No. 7648/68. Heading F4R. In a vehicle headlamp, a series of optical deflectors 1 are pivoted about vertical or near vertical axes 1a coupled by a linkage 2 to the steering system so that when the vehicle is taking a corner all the deflectors are pivoted so as to reflect part of the light towards the inside of the corner. The deflectors may be plane mirrors silvered on both sides or semi-transparent mirrors and may extend only over the lower half of the mouth of the reflector so that part of the beam is undeflected and where the lamp provides dipped and main beams, the dipped beam is also unaffected. The axes of the deflectors may be inclined at a small angle to the vertical so that the deflected beam is directed downwards as well as sideways.
