Abstract

1,211,881. Sealing strips in window, curtain walling &c. installations. ASTRALITE Ltd. 1 Dec., 1967 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 3758/67. Headings E1J and E1W. A sealing arrangement at the periphery of a structural assembly such as a window 38 curtain walling or the like constructed by a planar frame including, e.g. frame peripheral members 10 secured by fixing rails 18 to the surrounding structure 22 and incorporating inner frames 46 secured to the frame 10 by flexible strips 30 with key strips 30a comprises a sealing strip 56 provided between the periphery of the frame 10 and the structure 22, the sealing strip having a transverse section which includes at least one flexible limb 58 secured at one end to the frame and extending from the frame with its profile deformed to contact the structure 22 and allows relative movement, e.g. due to temperature changes, between the frame and structure parallel to the frame, enabled by the method of fixing the frame in the structure 22 by means of U- shaped section of the frame members 10 having bifurcated flanges 14 into which engage the flanges 24 of the fixing rail 18. As shown, the outer flange of the frame members 10 is provided with an angle extension 16 having an inwardly turned flange 62 which is accommodated in the groove 28 of a strip 30 of flexible material together with the base portion 60 of the strip 56, and is positively locked therein by a key and groove engagement 62 of the portions 60 and 62. The strip 56 also has a spur 64 that sits on the shoulder of the strip 30. Each flange 62 has a widened terminal portion to fill the width of slot 28 for the transference of weight of the frames or panels 34, 40 to the frames and avoid bending of the strips 30. A sash, hinged as at 42, top or bottom or side hung, or slidable may be provided. The strip such as 58 is also described to seal the junction between two juxtaposed frames, the adjoining frame members forming a mullion (Fig. 3, not shown). The strip 53 may be integral with the strip 30 and have a groove 68 as indicated. The strip 58 may take the form of a tape (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) and avoid electrolytic action between the adjoining different metals.
