Abstract

1,211,170. Moulding mats; polyvinylchloride laminate. HARTE & CO. Inc. 28 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967; 11 Oct., 1968], No. 56567/68. Headings B5A and B5N. [Also in Division A4] Mats having a decoration visible on one surface are made by hot compression moulding a mass of highly plasticized PVC to form the main body of the mat, cooling the main body whilst still under pressure in the mould, opening the mould and applying a printed film of less plasticized PVC to the main body, reclosing the mould, applying heat and pressure to bond the film to the main body, and finally cooling the resultant mat and removing it from the mould. The main body and the film may be opaque or transparent and the film may be applied either to the wear surface of the main body, which may be contoured during the moulding, or to the reverse surface. In various examples (see Figs. 1-6, not shown) the main body is either opaque and the film adhered printed side up or down to the wear surface, or is transparent and the film applied printed side up to reverse surface.
