Abstract

1,210,808. Positive clutches. TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT (THORNYCROFT) Ltd. 31 May, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 27579/67. Heading F2C. Synchronized engagement of positive clutches 5, 7 ; 6, 8 in a vehicle manual or power-assisted change-speed gear, is obtained by a pair of balk-rings 2, 3 selectively engageable with frusto-conical friction surfaces 11, 12 associated with the clutches, and fast with two sets of pins 15, 16 interconnecting the rings and passing through apertures 25, 26 in a sliding clutch hub 1, each set of rings being formed with respective flared balk surfaces 19, 20 on collars 17, 18 on opposite sides of the hub 1. When one set of collars engages in their respective apertures 25 or 26, the other set are axially misaligned to block sliding of the hub in their direction until synchronism. As shown, the collars are slidable on the pins against springs 23, 24. Again, Fig. 4, not shown), for a manual gear-box, the collars (30), (31) are fast with the pins. Also, Fig. 5 (not shown), for a single gear, one ring (2) only is provided, carrying both sets of pins with spring-biased collars on opposite sides of the sliding hub.
