Abstract

1,209,715. Needling apparatus; endless webs. E. FEHRER. 2 Dec., 1968 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 57086/68. Heading D1R. A needle punching machine in which an endless web is guided before and behind a perforated table 1 by rough covered deflecting rollers 7, 6 is characterised in that each deflecting roller 6, 7 is provided with a partcylindrical cover shell 9, 10 having a smooth surface and being pivotally adjustable about the axis of the roller, the cover extending over part of the periphery of the roller preferably less than one-half the periphery. During operation, the shells 9, 10 are in the position shown in dotted lines so that the web contacts the rough surface of the deflecting rollers 6, 7. When the web is completed, the shells 9, 10 are pivoted by means of pistoncylinder units 11, 12 to the position shown in solid lines, so that the web is lifted clear of the roller surface on to the smooth surface of the shell, and the webs can be removed in the direction of the axes of the rollers. When the shells are in the lower inoperative position the leading edge acts as a stripper to prevent the web remaining in contact with the rough surface of the roller. The shells are preferably of hollow crescent-shaped cross-section.
