Abstract

1,208,514. Rear view mirrors. Y. J. TALBOT. 2 Aug., 1968, No. 37038/68. Heading B7J. An external rear view mirror comprises a reflector 5 (Fig. 1) mounted on a holder 4 adjustable in a casing 3; a base 2, 22, secured to the casing 3 and a vehicle 1, and an attachment 10 extending away from the reflector and terminating substantially at the level of the base, the attachment bridging the gap between the casing 3 and the vehicle 1, and having a smooth face at its side remote from the base. The attachment 10 has at one end a spherical head 27 engaging in the adjacent open end of the casing in the manner of a universal joint. The member 10 may serve as a handle for operating means for adjusting the holder in the casing, which means comprise a disc 7, a screw 8, and a threaded sleeve 9 connected resiliently to the spherical head 27. The attachment may be either rigid or resilient, and terminates at the other end in a resilient cap 13. In other embodiments the attachment may be made of sheet steel and securable to the vehicle body by means of a screw (Fig. 2, not shown); the attachment may terminate in a magnet (29) (Fig. 3, not shown), instead of the cap 13; or the attachment may terminate in an extendable leg (14), (Fig. 4, not shown) so as to enable the length of the attachment to be altered. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), part of the attachment is formed into a transparent cap (18) containing an electric bulb (20).
