Abstract

1,208,340. Rail vehicle bogies. GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc. 5 Sept., 1968, No. 42287/68. Heading B7L. A rail vehicle bogie comprises a pair of wheeled axles 3 and 5 resiliently supporting side frames 11, and there extending between the frames transverse members 25 formed with longitudinally extending end portions 27 by which the members are resiliently pivoted to the frames, the said members having opposed projections 45 formed with co-operating semicylindrical recesses which form a bearing for a bolster pivot boss 49, said bolster 51 bearing on the side frame by way of resilient pads 67. The pins 33 about which members 25 pivot pass through apertures in webs 29, 31 of the side frames and a larger aperture in the end portion 27, the resiliency being provided by an elastomeric bushing 39. The aperture formed by the recesses in projections 45 contains an elastomeric bushing 55 and a bearing sleeve 53. The vehicle underframe is supported on the bolster by air springs 69, and draft and braking forces are transmitted between the bogie and body by links 75 extending between brackets 71 and 73 depending from the bolster and body respectively. Drive motors M are connected with a respective axle by gear-boxes G and suspended by the adjacent transverse member by bracket 77. In a modification the transverse members extend diagonally across the bogie with their centre portions overlying and formed with aligned apertures which form the bolster pivot bearing. The ends of the transverse members are formed with an inverted cone which overlies inverted cones formed in a central horizontal web of the side frames. Between each cone of a pair is an annular elastomeric bush. In a further modification the transverse members are V-shaped in plan with their apices overlying and formed with aligned bolster pivot bearing apertures. In another modification one end of each transverse member is bifurcated and is connected with the side frame, by way of the cone connections, at two vertically spaced locations.
