An apparatus to facilitate replacing the forming-wire loop of a paper-making machine comprises means supporting the wire loop; guides located on opposite sides of the loop; poles movable on the guides and serving to tension the wire; a power-driven flexible traction device located close to the guides and arranged to move said poles along the guides; and spaced means for attaching the poles at intervals to the traction device. The traction device may be wire ropes with attaching means consisting of loops, or may be a chain conveyor. The device is preferably movable both forwardly to tension the wire, and rearwardly, to remove the poles. As shown, the table rolls, suction boxes, forming board, and so on, have been moved in the usual manner to temporary locations at one side of the machine. The wire bundle and the poles are carried on wire-changing carriage 3. The poles are attached to traction device 6, and are moved on guides 7, stretching and tensioning the wire. The parts removed from inside the loop are then replaced, and the traction device reversed, the poles being detached and removed at 10.
