Abstract

1,207,919. Filter in heat exchangers. A.P.V. CO. Ltd. 30 Sept., 1969 [29 Oct., 1968], No. 51197/68. Heading B1D. [Also in Division F4] In a plate heat-exchanger of the type comprising a pack 8 of plates in spaced face to face relationship to define flow spaces therebetween and having manifolds defined by a through port and gasket arrangement for the supply and discharge of fluid media to and from the flow spaces, the supply manifold for at least one of the fluid media includes a permeable container 7 through which the fluid from a supply line 10 is constrained to flow before entering the flow spaces between the plates. The container 7, which can either be a hollow cylinder having a permeable wall (see Fig. 12) or be of segmental shape and open topped over part or all its length (see Fig. 4), acts as a filter preventing any solid particles in the fluid flow from entering the flow spaces. Preferably the container is releasably secured in the manifold so that it can be removed for cleaning purposes without dismantling the plate stack. Spacers in the form of bushes (23, Fig. 11) spaced along a plurality of axially extending rods (22) circumferentially spaced about the container (21) and engaging the rims of the ports in the plates can be provided to locate and centralise the container in the manifold.
