Abstract

1,207,847. Container closures. M. B. STULL. 19 Dec., 1967 [24 Jan., 1967], No. 57687/67. Heading B8T. A dispensing closure comprises an upright tubular plastics body 10 adapted to be carried on a container by a base portion 12, the body having a closure pin 18 extending from a diametric bridge 16, and a plastics screw cap 20 axially movable on the body. Threads 22, 24 control the axial movement whilst a helical track 28 and a follower 30 connected to the cap, prevent backlash between the threads. The cap has an orifice 42 at the top of a tubular extension 44, on the inner surface of which are grooves 46 providing a helical path for the flow of material from the container to which the cap is fitted. As the cap is unscrewed the path becomes progressively wider. Positive stops for the raised and lowered positions of the cap are provided, namely, the lug 30 engaging surfaces 34 and 36 respectively and lug 38 engaging a shoulder 40 and an axial bead 26 respectively. The bead 26 joins adjacent upper portions of the thread 24 to prevent product from flowing between the threads and contaminating them. A lug 52 on the outside of the cap is an indicator to show the degree of opening of the cap; a lug 53 acts as a stop at the open and closed positions. An alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) attains a smaller external diameter by moving the helical track and follower to the top of the tubular body. This particular embodiment only gives 180 degrees rotation but can be modified to give 360 degrees of rotation, as in Fig. 7 (not shown). The Specification includes a reference to Specification 1,184,239.
