Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A gear pump for making an air/liquid mixture e.g. of ice cream or whipped cream has a liquid intake port 14, an outlet duct 10, and two air inlet ports 16, 116 remote from the mesh of the gears. Liquid enters the pump through a passage 313 in a plug 13 the upper sleeve-like part 15 of which has a cam profiled edge; the plug is rotatable by a lever 216 whereby the sleeve 15 forms an adjustable shutter for the inlet port 14. Thus the amount of liquid sucked in and hence the air/liquid ratio can be altered. A by-pass valve 11 opens under excess delivery pressure to connect the delivery duct 10 with the inlet port 14, the lower end 111 of the valve simultaneously closing inlet port 313 to prevent flow of mixture up the liquid supply pipe. In another embodiment, (see Figs. 4-8, not shown), the rotatable plug 13 has a sleeve (215) with a set of calibrated inlet ports (F1- F8) instead of a cam profile, and the by-pass valve has a body (111) from which depends a flexible stem (211) carrying a ball valve (311) which closes the inlet port 313.
