[Also in Divisions B3 and H1] A method of making battery plate grids comprises starting with a strip of material from which the grid is to be formed, the strip having thickened side portions and a plurality of longitudinal ribs parallel therewith, and passing the strip between rollers which contain an impression of the required grid. The strip is passed between rollers, both having depressions corresponding to the sides 12 and the ribs 13. In addition, one roller has helical depressions corresponding with the ribs 14 while the other has depressions corresponding with the ribs 15. The rolling operation causes material to flow from the areas between the side portions and the ribs and from the side portions and ribs themselves into the recesses in the rollers corresponding to the ribs 14, 15. The inclination of the recesses also assists in the formation of the upper and lower sides of the frame 12 and a lug 12a. The method may be used for the manufacture of plastics grids, a suitable material being polypropylene with about 40% talc by weight.
