Abstract

1,204,276. Cleaning vehicle lamp glasses. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 17 April, 1969, No. 19586/69. Heading A4F. A device for cleaning a vehicle lamp glass comprises means for moving strips 1, 2 relatively to one another around the periphery of the lamp glass to actuate wiper blades 5 so carried by the strips that relative movement of the strips causes each wiper blade 5 to sweep over an area of the lamp glass, the blades 5 being constructed and arranged to be around the periphery of the lamp glass when inoperative. In the illustrated embodiment each wiper blade 5 is pivotally connected to the strip, 1 and has a lug 9 extending into a gap 4 in the strip 2. By a manually operated or electric motor driven Bowden cable the strips 1, 2 are relatively displaced so that interaction of the lugs 9 and the strip 2 causes the wiper blades 5 to swing inwardly to positions 5a, the strips 1, 2 being then moved together through an arc of approximately 70 degrees and subsequently allowed to return by resilient means to their original positions. Means may be provided for directing a jet of water over the headlamp glass during the wiping operation.
