Abstract
1,204,201. Hydrofining. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 23 Jan., 1968 [25 Jan., 1967], No. 3398/68. Heading C5E. A process for hydrorefining a full-boiling range hydrocarbon feedstock comprising a naphtha fraction and at least one contaminant selected from sulfurous compounds and nitrogenous compounds comprises: (a) reacting said feedstock with hydrogen in a first reaction zone containing hydrorefining catalyst; (b) separating the entire effluent from said first reaction zone in a first separation zone to provide a first gaseous phase comprising hydrogen and relatively light hydrocarbons, and a liquid phase comprising relatively heavy refined hydrocarbons; (c) reacting said first gaseous phase in the absence of added hydrogen in a second reaction zone maintained at a temperature lower than that at which said first reaction zone is maintained and containing hydrorefining catalyst; (d) withdrawing from said second reaction zone an effluent comprising hydrogen and relatively light, refined hydrocarbons; and (e) separating said second reaction zone effluent to provide a hydrogen-rich second gaseous stream and a refined, light hydrocarbon stream; and (f) recovering resulting refined hydrocarbons. In optional modifications, the second gaseous stream may be recycled to the first reaction stage; and the liquid phases from both zones may be combined.
