Abstract

1,201,467. Pipe connections. WALTER SLINGSBY & CO. Ltd. 20 Nov., 1967 [6 Dec., 1966], No. 54468/66. Heading F2G. Means for connecting a branch pipe 5 to a main pipe 3 comprises a known form of pipe coupling 1 with at least one outlet part 4 for the pipe 5 and an access opening 6 in axial alignment with a tubular inlet part 2 adapted to be screwed directly into the wall of the pipe 3, and has in combination therewith an internally and externally screwed ferrule 8 to screw into the opening 6, and a sealing plug 18 with a resilient periphery 19 capable of sealing the passage in the inlet part 2; the plug has an externally screwed upper part capable of being withdrawn into and retained in the ferrule, and there are means for moving the plug from the operative sealing position thereof when the sealed coupling is in the pipe 3 and the pipe 5 is in position. As shown, the plug 18 has a recess to receive the squared end of a tubular spindle 13 provided with holes 16, and a screwed hole for the reception of the end 22 of a spindle 21, the spindle 13 being axially movable, together with the spindle 21, in a guide ferrule 10 screwed into the ferrule 8. In a modification, the screwed tapering part 7 carries a sealing ring which is compressed by a saddle and against the pipe 3 under the action of a locknut screwed down the part 7.
