Abstract

1,201,435. Tube expanders. R. OGDEN & CO. (PIPELINE CONSTRUCTORS) Ltd. 5 Feb., 1969 [7 Feb., 1968], No. 6002/68. Heading B3J. [Also in Division F2] A device for correcting out-of-roundness in butt-welded pipes &c. comprises a series of radiating hydraulic rams 10 each carrying an arcuate former 15 to be forced outwards against a pipe-interior by operation of its ram. The rams are returned by springs 25 and are provided with bolts 17a, 17b working in radial slots in guide-plates 24a, 24b. Wheels 19, 20 and a towing ring 23 are provided for moving the device along a pipe from weld to weld, the former being grooved at 28 to receive the weld. Brake pads 32, Fig. 3, on links 30 are applied by a spring 36 for preventing the device from running down a pipe, the brake being released by a lever 39 connected to the links and operated by a wire. Two series of rams may be provided, the formers of which may be staggered and operated together or one series after the other.
