Abstract

1,201,077. Boots &c. BRITISH BATA SHOE CO. Ltd. 13 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 46900/67. Heading A3B. A shoe upper is prepared for lasting by simultaneously heat treating the rear of the upper and its associated counter stiffener and moistening the front of the upper. Apparatus for preparing the shoe uppers consists of a heating chamber A and a moistening chamber B. The two chambers A and B are sealed off from each other by a partition 1 and two conveyer belts 2 1 , 2 2 . The belts 2 1 , 2 2 carry the shoe uppers 10 through the apparatus with the rear portion 10 1 in the chamber A and the front portion 10 2 in the chamber B. Chamber A is provided with heating means 11, e.g. infra-red heaters, electric resistance heaters or hot air heaters, and chamber B is provided with moistening means, e.g. an aerosol device 12.
