Abstract

1,200,492. Carbon fibres. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. 21 June, 1968 [11 July, 1967], No. 31744/67. Heading C1A. Carbon fibres are produced by continuously feeding polyacrylonitrile fibres under tension through two separate furnaces, the fibres being heated to 200-300‹ C. in an oxidizing atmosphere in the first furnace and subsequently being heated to 2000-3000‹ C. in an inert atmosphere e.g. Argon or Heium in the second furnace.
