Abstract

1,199,756. Seats. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 6 Aug., 1968 [10 Aug., 1967], No. 36857/67. Heading A4J. A flexible back-rest pad 13 is adapted to fit the occupant's back anatomically, by providing a central channel, between lateral kidney support pads (19) and arranging for the floor 14 of the channel to be adjustably bulged outwardly by means of a rotatable cylindrical cam 15. Cam 15 may be formed from a rigid cylinder covered with a wedge of resilient rubber material. Spindle 17 may be connected, through a chain and sprocket drive, to a rotary operating handle. Elastic members 16 holds the pad under tension while it is further stiffened, in the unsupported region, by horizontal aluminium slats 18. A further rubber covered cylindrical cam 23 varies the inclination of seat part 21.
