Abstract

1,199,492. Loading bobbins. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd. 20 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967; 7 Aug., 1968], Nos. 38356/67 and 37709/68. Heading D1T. A bobbin-loading device, especially for a stranding machine having the bobbins supported on cantilevered arbors carried on a frame rotating about the stranding axis, comprises a table 20 for supporting a bobbin with its axis normal to the table and in alignment with an arbor 4 when in a dependant position; means for raising the table to be level with the end-face of a bobbin on the arbor 4; and a means movable relative to the table 4 for effecting release of a bobbin-retaining device when the table is in a raised position to allow the bobbin to be withdrawn from its arbor 4 as the table is lowered. As shown, the table 20 is raised and covered by a fluid-actuated main ram 21. A pneumatically acuated subsidiary ram 35 is used to release the bobbin by acting on plunger 16 and selfcatching latches 17. The latches may be as described in Specification 1, 192, 801. The rim of the bobbin is also engaged by fluid-actuated claws 28. If a non-self-latching device is used to retain the bobbin, there may be provided a means to open the bobbin-retaining device which is mounted on (or responsive to) the upward loading movement of the table 20. The table 20 may pass through a bobbin conveyor to receive or deposit a bobbin during loading or unloading of the arbor 4 as described in Specification 1,199,491. Alternatively the surface of the table may be provided with balls which enable a bobbin to be slid across the table into its position of axial alignment with the arbor. The fluid feed to the ram and claw activating cylinders may be controlled by a logic sequence circuit which does not permit the next step in the loading or unloading sequence to take place until there is sufficient pressure to release the latches or engage the claws, as the case may be. The position of the main ram 21 may be signalled to the logic circuit by magnetic .switches.
