Abstract
1,198,468. Automatic circuit-breakers; electromagnetic switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 6 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 50252/67. Heading H1N. In a current limiting circuit-breaker of the kind described in Specification 1,196,797, the movable contacts 24B are coupled to the manual and automatic actuating mechanism (Fig. 3, not shown) through an insulating member so that the mechanisms of the three poles need not be insulated from one another. In Fig. 5 a tube 43 coupled by a lost-motion coupling 47 to contact 24B and a tube 56 coupled to the actuating mechanism are coupled by an insulating member 53 having oppositely threaded portions 54, 55 allowing adjustment of their relative positions. Alternatively, in Fig. 6, tube 60 is insulating and rigidly coupled to the contact 24B while the link 56 is coupled to the tube 60 by a pin-and-slot mechanism. An armature 45 is attached to the contact 24B and the tube 43, 60 passes through a fixed core 50. A coil in series with the contacts surrounds the core 50 and, when a short-circuit current flows, attracts armature 45 to core 50 to cause rapid opening of the contacts independently of the actuating mechanism, as described in Specification 1,196,797.
