Abstract

1,198,462. Coated non-conductive surfaces. O. HOMMEL CO. 19 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 42650/67. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C1] A non-conductive substrate is coated by applying an aqueous solution of an electrolyte to the surface, drying and electrostatically applying a spray coat of a vitreous material. The non-conductive substrate may be glass sheets and containers, ceramic tiles and dinner ware. Numerous suitable electrolytes are specified, such as sodium nitrite and ammonium nitrate and these may be applied as a solution of from 0.1 to 50% by weight. A wetting agent may be present in the solution. The vitreous material may be a vitreous frit or a "raw glaze".
