Abstract
1,198,127. Ammonium phosphate/nitrate fertilizer. RUMANIA, MINISTRY OF INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS. 17 July, 1967 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 32787/67. Addition to 1,048,269. Heading C1A. Phosphate rock is dissolved in nitric acid, the solution extracted with a partially watermiscible organic solvent, the organic extract of HNO 3 and H 3 PO 4 is ammoniated and the resultant two layers are separated by decantation: the aqueous layer (in the form of a suspension of ammonium phosphate and ammonium nitrate) and the aqueous raffinate (calcium nitrate) from the extraction are distilled to recover the solvents, which together with the organic layer from the ammoniation are acidulated with strong nitric acid to recover an aqueous solution of ammonium nitrate and the solvents are recycled to the extraction stage. Various other features are disclosed in the examples including (a) the use of a pulsed column for the extraction (b) performing the distillation on the raffinate during manufacture therefrom of calcium nitrate-urea, calcium natrate, nitro-chalk or ammonium nitratecalcium carbonate (c) where ammonium nitrate is formed in (b), recycling this to the aqueous salt suspension (d) recycling the ammonium nitrate recovered from the accidulation to said suspension (e) two-stage decantation (f) the use of gaseous NH 3 ,
