Abstract

1,196,511. Spray producers. B. C. BRI3- TOW. 27 Feb., 1968 [1 March, 1967], No. 9305/68. Heading B2F. Hydraulic tank cleaning apparatus comprises a source of fluid, a stationary housing 10, means connecting the stationary housing to a source of fluid, said stationary housing having a flow passage 13 therein for the flow of cleaning fluid and an opening 14 in communication with the flow passage, a rotatable housing 16 mounted on said stationary housing for movement about an axis, said rotatable housing being formed with a cylindrical extension 26, said extension having a flow passage 27 therein movable into communication with the passage in the stationary housing, said extension also having an opening 28 in communication with the flow passage therein, a nozzle housing 31 rotatably mounted on said extension and having a passage 42 adapted to be moved into communication with the opening in the extension, said nozzle housing being rotatable about an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the rotatable housing, and means for causing rotation of the rotatable housing on the stationary housing and of the nozzle housing on the extension which means comprise planetary gearing 66 and a propeller 46 responsive to the flow of cleaning fluid and adapted to drive the gearing. The planetary gear means may comprise a pinion 64 on the propeller shaft, planetary gear 67, a first internal ring gear 73 carried by the stationary housing and engaging the planetary gear, and a second internal ring gear 74 secured to the rotatable housing and driven by the planetary gear, said first and second ring gears having differing numbers of teeth whereby the rotatable housing is driven about the stationary housing. The planetary gearing may have helical teeth to provide an axial thrust on the propeller shaft opposed to, and preferably substantially equal to, that imparted 'by the propeller.
