Abstract

1,196,043. Heat-treating metals; preventing oxidation of metal melts. G. SCHAUMBURG. May 23, 1967 [May 24, 1966], No.23817/67. Headings CM and CN. [Also in Division B2] Hot metal surfaces are protected from oxidation in the course of manufacturing procedures e. g. laminating, forging by application of a material which will effect metal oxide reduction to form a protective coating. The material may be applied as a powder solution, or gas, and may comprise compounds of boron or of beryllium or a derivative of soda. The term "hot" is defined as temperatures in the order of steel forging or liquid steel temperatures.
