Abstract

1,195,505. Percussive drills. HILTI A.G. 9 July, 1968 [31 July, 1967], No. 32598/68. Heading B4C. [Also in Division B3] A motor-powered rotary/percussive drill comprises a continuously rotated cylinder 12 having therein a hammer piston 21 movable by means of a piston 23 and trapped air 22 into engagement with a tool or tool-holder shank 19a, the cylinder having bores 12b, 12c defining the working stroke of the hammer piston, and a body 31 carrying the tool or tool-holder and movable to position the tool or tool-holder shank 19a for percussive or non-percussive operation. The body can be moved relative to a fixed screw 32 so that it can be locked in a percussive or non- percussive position by the screw 32 engaging in portions 33b or 33a respectively of a U-shaped slot 33 (Fig. 2). When the body is moved to the non-percussive position, the hammer piston opens bores 12c to the trapped air and closes bores 12b, and continued reciprocation of the driving piston does not effect movement of the hammer piston.
