Abstract

1,195,212. Papermaking. CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO. 30 May, 1967, No. 24912/67. Heading D2A. A fibre suspension is distributed to a headbox, of the kind having a multiplicity of straight parallel tubes (11) uniformly distributed over its inlet end, through a chamber (30) of the same width as the inlet end of the headbox and a perforated plate (32) between the chamber and the headbox. This plate has an orifice for each of the tubes (11), in line with the centre of its tube, Ibut of smaller diameter, and the plate is spaced from the tubes far enough to permit free movement of the suspension. The inlet end of each headbox tube is within the region of reverse flow caused by the jet of fluid through the corresponding orifice, and the total crosssectional area of the means supplying stock to the inlet end of the chamber is less than the cross-sectional area of the chamber, but greater than the total cross-sectional area of the orifices. The side, top and rear walls of the chamber, together with the plate may be mounted on a carriage, so that they can be moved away from the rest of the headbox for cleaning (Fig. 2, 3 and 6 not shown), but are normally held in place by bolts 58 and 60, and the joint sealed by seals 56.
