Abstract

1,158,105. Papermaking. BELOIT CORP. 18 May, 1966 [27 May, 1965], No. 22049/66. Heading D2A. Apparatus for supplying stock to a papermaking machine comprises a slice and a preslice flow chamber connected to the slice to direct the stock to the slice. A portion of the. chamber defines a multiplicity of spaced apertures extending from a transverse barrier substantially parallel to one another. There are spaced tubular nozzles on substantially parallel axes connected to each aperture and flaring outwards in the downstream direction. As shown, a wire F travels round a breast roll 10, and stock is supplied from the slice S of a headbox 11. The stock is supplied to the headbox through a cross-machine header 12. There are three barriers, each comprising a perforated plate 13, 23 or 33 with apertures 13a, 13b . . 23a, 23b carrying nozzles 14a, 14b, . . 24a, 24b . ., each of which flares outwards in the downstream direction. The upstream end may be flush with the barrier as shown, or may project from it (Fig. 2A, not shown). The cross-section of the nozzle may be round (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), square (Fig. 5, not shown), triangular or hexagonal.
