Abstract

1,194,612. Injection moulding. HUPFIELD BROS. Ltd. 17 April, 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 18411/68. Heading B5A. A device for removing a moulded article, e.g. a shoe sole and heel 3, from a two-part injection mould 1, 2, includes a gripping means 14 swung into position between the separated mould parts 1, 2 to grip and remove the article and subsequently release it. As described a pair of combined shoes and heels are simultaneously moulded side-by-side, and each heel is hollow with a web portion 4 which is gripped by a pair of gripper fingers 15, Fig. 5, not shown, carried by a frame 8 pivoted about a rod 12 carried by a structure secured to a bolster 5 supporting the mould part 2. Movement of the gripping means is effected by a double-acting jack 25 and the clamping and unclamping of each pair of fingers 15 is controlled by cables 18 operated by an hydraulic jack, not shown. The sequence of operation of the jacks is controlled by cams 38 on the rod 12 operating switches 39 of a control circuit. To effect moulding, the mould part 2 is moved on rods 6 by rams against the part 1, and both parts then move to bring the part 1 into engagement with a plate 31 on a fixed bolster 27. Mould material is injected via nozzle 30, grooves 32 and orifices 33. A sprue extractor 36 is moved into a groove 35 when the mould is closed and its head 37 becomes embedded in moulding material so that when the mould is opened and the extractor is moved downwards the sprue is removed. The gripping means may comprise pneumatic suction heads.
