Abstract

1,193,794. Photographic copying apparatus. ADDRESSOGRAPH - MULTIGRAPH CORP. July, 15, 1968 [July, 31, 1967], No.33659/68 Heading G2A. In the developer section 34 of copying apparatus, the roller 90, which applies developer liquid to the copy sheet as it passes between rollers 90 and 92, can be retracted from roller 92 as the main lever controlling the operation of the apparatus is moved from "on" to "off". Section 34 is shown as part of a copying apparatus in which the original and copy sheets are fed in at stations 28 and 26 respectively, passed in contact round exposure cylinder 22 containing a lamp 24, and then separated by vacuum chests 70, 72. The orignal is passed out of the apparatus by rollers 76 and 78, while the copy sheet is carried on to the developing section 34. This comprises a casing of which the lower part is formed by a tray 94 which holds the developer liquid, and into which dips a roller 96. This wets the applicator roller 90 and, as the copy sheet passes between roller 90 and pressure roller 92, the liquid is applied to the sheet. This is subsequently passed out of the apparatus via guides 98, 100 and rollers 102, 104 and delivered to a receiving tray 36. Operation of the apparatus is initiated by pushing inwards a handle Fig. 4, (not shown) comprising a knob (18) on the end of a shaft (128). This energizes a control circuit which switches on the lamp, and leaves it operating at reduced brilliance during a stand-by condition in which the drive motors and a cooling blower also operate at reduced power. When an original is fed to the machine for copying, it actuates a switch which energizes the lamp to full brilliance, and the blower and drive motors to normal operational levels. The applicator roller 90 is mounted on a shaft journalled in a pair of slide blocks which are connected to the handle shaft (128). Thus when this is pushed inwards to turn the apparatus off, roller 90 is at the same time pulled away from rollers 92 and 96 and disengages from them. Conversely, when the handle is pulled outwards to turn the apparatus on, roller 90 is moved back into engagement with rollers 92 and 96. Liquid is continuously circulated between the tray 94 and a supply reservoir so as to maintain a constant level in the tray, and the amount of liquid applied to the copy sheet can be metered.
