Abstract
1,193,046. Burners. J. AICHELIN. 16 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 39224/68. Heading F4T. A burner for heating furnace chambers comprises a fuel nozzle 6 concentrically surrounded by a cylinder 11 which, with an outer sheath 2, defines an annular gap 12 which is subdivided by means of walls 16 formed by a cylindrical corrugated sheet into circumferentially alternate air supply and waste gas outflow channels (17 and 18) respectively (Fig 2, not shown), the channels (17) opening into the area of fuel outflow from the nozzle and the channels (18) being connected to a collector pipe 20. Air is supplied via a pipe 22, and an annular chamber 21 to the channels (17) and directed by walls 24 of the channels to mix with fuel and the mixture ignited by an electrode 25. Waste gas passing through channels 18 serves to heat the air supplied to the burner. The walls 16 may be helically arranged around the axis of the cylinder to cause swirl of the air flow. Vorticity can be induced in the channels by the provision of wire mesh screens in the channels. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) an extension 26 of the cylinder 11 is secured to the walls 16 and projects into a refractory block 27 which defines with an end 28 of the sheathing tube an arcuate space 29 through which waste gas passes to enter the channels 18.
