Abstract

1,192,833. Shaping stator windings. MASCHINENFABRIK SPANDAU GEH & CO. K.G. 7 Feb., 1968 [8 Feb., 1967], No. 6176/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division B5] In a method of cohering together thermoplastic coated stator windings of an electric motor, the coil is compressed by axial and radial pressure and it is heated by passing an electric current through the windings. The stator 18 is placed over a radial thrust device 2 and on a moulding section 1, which is carried by a lower limb portion 6 of a clamp 5. A press head section 3 is positioned on top of the stator and a thrust pad 17 is located on top of the head section 3. A manually operated pressure mechanism 4 is swung into the position shown and downward pressure of the mechanism is transmitted to a spreader mandrel 12 of the radial thrust device. A conical part 13 of the mandrel forces thrust blades 11 through slots 10 to compress the winding radially, the sections 1, 3 providing the axial compression. The mandrel 12 bears on a switch 22, which is operated at a predetermined load to allow current to pass through the coil thereby moulding the thermoplastic coating.
