Abstract

1,192,202. Regulating I.C. engines. SOC. DES PROCEDES MODERNES D'INJECTION SOPROMI. April 13, 1967 [April 13, 1966; Dec. 9, 1966], No. 299/70. Divided out of 1,192,201. Heading F1B. The description is the same as the corresponding part of that of the parent, and it and the claims relate to a fuel injection system for an I. C. engine using electromagnetic injectors, each having an energizing coil which is associated with a capacitor which stores the energy released on the turning off of one injector coil and supplies this energy to boost the initial energizing of the next injection coil to be operated. The period for which an injector is open is made dependent upon such factors as induction and air pressures, engine and induction air temperatures, rate of accelerator depression, so-called "air filling coefficient", and advance or retard of injection time. In one embodiment a single storage capacitor 5001, Fig. 8 (not shown) is used for all coils (7<SP>1</SP>,8<SP>1</SP>,9<SP>1</SP>) and is charged through diodes (5003, 5004) from whichever coil is turned off by the cutting off of a power supply transistor (713<SP>1</SP>). When this transistor (713<SP>1</SP>) is next turned on and a coil-controlling thyristor (1021, 1022, 1023) is turned on a further thyristor (5002) is also turned on to discharge the capacitor (5001) through the selected coil. In other embodiments, one storage capacitor (4009), Fig. 2 (not shown) is connected in series with a diode (4005) across each coil (4007) or across a group of parallel connected coils Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). Each capacitor is crosscoupled to another. The injector coils are turned off in one embodiment Fig. 6 (not shown) by extinction thyristors (4029, 4028) one of which is associated with one set of coils (4007) and the other with a second set of coils (4008); these thyristors are fed with energy stored on capacitors (4007b, 4010b) and derived through diodes (4006b, 4005b) from the main storage capacitor (4009, 4010).
