Abstract

1,191,986. Container. DESIGNA G.m.b.H. 5 June, 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 26816/68. Heading B8D. A container comprises two vessels 12, 14, each of which is provided with a chamber having an opening, co-operating releasable means (screw threads 20, 36) engaged when said container is closed and forming a conduit connecting said openings while permitting relative movement of said vessels, and separating means 16 in said conduit. The container further comprises first coupling means (plug 30 on separator 16 fitting inside annular wall 32, of vessel 14) for yieldably holding said separating means 16 in an operative position in which the plug 30 closes the opening 34 of vessel 14 and second coupling means (tube 16 fitting inside vessel 12 and having a sealing ring 24) responsive to said relative (screw-threaded) movement for moving said separating means 16 away from said operative position thereof against the restraint of said first coupling means 30, 32. In use, the separator 16 is inserted into the filled cover 14 and the combination screwed on to the filled cup 12. In the sealed position the flange 33 on the annular wall 32 closes a circular row of axial passages 28 in the transverse partition 26 in the separating means 16, thus preventing the contents of chambers 34, 18 from mixing. To mix the contents of the two vessels the threads 20, 36 are loosened a few turns and the separator 16, which is held in stronger frictional engagement with the cup 12 than with the cover 14 is slightly withdrawn from said cover 14, thus releasing the axial holes 28 from the flange 33 and allowing the contents to mix. The cup 12 may be made of glass, the cover 14 and the separating means 16 of a plastics material. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the axial passages (28<SP>1</SP>) are closed in the operative position by outwardly extending annular sealing ribs (46) integral with the plug portion (30<SP>1</SP>) of the separating means (16<SP>1</SP>) and inwardly extending annular sealing ribs (44) on the wall portion thereof, which engage opposite sides of the cylindrical wall (32<SP>1</SP>). The wall (32<SP>1</SP>) is not provided with an annular flange as in the embodiment of Fig. 1, but partially enters the passages (28<SP>1</SP>) in the operative position. The shorter section of the somewhat resilient separator tube (16<SP>1</SP>) which extends into the cup (12<SP>1</SP>) is provided with an annular, outwardly projecting integral rib (48) which is partly receivable in a conforming groove (50) in the glass wall of the cup (12<SP>1</SP>).
