Abstract
1,191,582. Grippers for lifting and crating bottles; endless conveyers; packing and unpacking bottles. H. PONTIFEX & SONS Ltd. 26 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968 (3)], Nos. 9320/68, 9321/68 and 9322/68. Headings B8A, B8C and B8H. In a bottle de-crating machine plates 25, 26, Fig. 1, are slid away from each other so that a lifting head 4 can descend between the plates to engage a group of bottles by means of grippers 16 and raise them until they are above the level of the plates 25, 26. The latter are now brought together again and raised slightly by cams to take the weight of the bottles which are released by the grippers. Pusher bars 54, Figs. 3a, 3b, driven by endless chains 46, now push the bottles along the surfaces of plates 25, 26, 44, 45 which may be coated with P.T.F.E. A slot with a spring-load flap 61 is provided between the plates 44, 45 for the passage of the pusher bar 54 to the underside of the plates. The bars 54 have rollers run on guide rails the height of which is adjustable by screws. Tensioning means are provided for the chain 46. The grippers 16, Fig. 1, may be as described in Specification 758,360 and they are operated by pneumatic rams. The head is raised by a pneumatic ram 10 and a chain 6 and descends under gravity, the rate of descent being controlled by the size of an exhaust port 12. The plates 25, 26 are also moved by pneumatic rams.
