Abstract

1,191,324. Transferring yarns. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 24 April, 1968 [2 May, 1967], No. 20200/67. Heading D1D. A process for transferring a running thread 18 from one spindle A1 to a second spindle B'2 e.g. to facilitate doffing of a full package 7 at spindle A1 in a draw and twister without stopping the running thread comprises looping on end 10 of a lacing yarn 19 around but out of contact with the running thread, said lacing yarn being anchored at its other end e.g. on a piece of Velero (Trade Mark) 13, for subsequent rotation with a bobbin 22 mounted on spindle B2, tightening the loop 10 to grip the running thread by starting rotation of the spindle B2 and entraining and rotating the lacing yarn thereby, severing the running thread downstream of the loop e.g. by a heated member 16 and transferring the free end of the running thread to the spindle B2 by pulling it thereto by said lacing yarn. As shown each set of draw-rollers is provided with a pair of diagonally set spindles so that after the thread transfer the full packages may be doffed sequentially. The loop 10 which is provided with a slip knot is mounted on a slotted rubber 20 through which protrude pins 21. When tension is applied to the lacing yarn, the pins are inwardly deformed and the loop slips therefrom onto the running thread. Each spindle is provided with anotched member 14 into engagement with which the lacing yarn can be moved by actuation of an arm 15.
