Abstract

1,190,914. 1 - Arylmethyl - 3 - acylaminopyrazolin-5-ones. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. 30 Aug., 1967 [26 Sept., 1966], No. 42824/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] The invention comprises compounds of the formula where Ar represents a carbocyclic aryl group optionally substituted by one or more non- chromophoric groups and R represents an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, aralkoxy, alkylamino, arylamino or aralkylamino radical each of which may carry non-chromophoric substituents. The compounds are prepared by known methods, e.g. by reacting the appropriate 1-arylmethyl-3-amino-2-pyrazolin 5-ones with the appropriate isocyanate or carboxylic acid halide. A number of compounds are described. The pyrazolinones are used as colour couplers (see Division G2]. The starting 1-arylmethyl-3-amino-2-pyrazolin- 5-ones are prepared by condensing #-ethoxy-#- imino-propionic acid ethyl ester with the appropriate arylmethylhydrazine in the presence of p-toluene sulphonic acid. The arylmethylhydrazines can be obtained from the corresponding chloromethyl substituted aromatic compound and hydrazine hydrate.
