[Also in Division F2] A drum beater device comprises a base portion including a pair of upright standards 2, 3, a shaft 24 j ournalled in said standards and supporting a beater element 27, first and second spring members each anchored at one end to first and second spring housings 30, 31 and at the other end to the shaft 24, each of the housings 30, 31 being rotatably mounted on one of the standards and being provided with a series of detents (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) and locking means e.g. pin springs, carried by said standards, spring biased into engagement with one of the detents whereby the opposing spring forces acting on said shaft may be varied by the selective rotation and locking in place of said housings. The standards terminate in circular plates 28, 29 having annular shoulders each having a circumferential groove corresponding with an internal groove in the cup-shaped housing for the joint reception of a radially expanding ring for retaining said housing against axial movement (Fig. 7A, not shown). The device is foldable in its entirety into compact form.
