Abstract

1,189,739. Two-part couplings. NORTHROP CORP. 4 Oct., 1968, No. 47261/68. Heading H2E. In a two-part electric coupling with a quickrelease locking mechanism, electrical connection is provided by pins 26 in a female housing 18 and sockets 24 in a male housing 19, the housings being locked together by hooks 47 attached to housing 19 being forced inwards to engage a thread 28 on housing 18 by a camming surface 52 in a sleeve 48, which is slidable towards housing 18. Hooks 47 are integral with a split cylinder 39 fitting tightly around, housing 19 and having a flange engaging a groove in housing 19 at 44. Hooks 47 are located in grooves 53 in sleeve 48 so that, in the locked position, rotation of the sleeves forces hooks 47 to move along the thread 28, thus producing a more or less tight connection. A groove in housing 18 and a ridge 34 on housing 19 provide location for the electrical contacts. Moulded elastomeric inserts 22, 23 and a sealing ring 57 prevent moisture ingress.
