Abstract

1,189,341. Containers on lorries. W. E. & F. DOBSON Ltd. 19 March, 1968 [8 April, 1967], No. 16188/67. Heading B8E. Container 1 is positioned on to the platform 15 of lorry 5 by means of four vertical fluid cylinders 2A, 3A and two horizontal fluid cylinders 21. Each cylinder 22 has two jacks 20, 21 connected respectively to slides 16, 17 moving in fixed slide ways 18, 19 the slides 16, 17 being secured at 23, 24 to the respective cylinders 3A, 4A so as to be capable of moving them horizontally. Hydraulic fluid is supplied to the hydraulic cylinders through hydraulic cable 7 carried by reel 6. The slides and slideways are square sectioned to prevent rotation. Operation.-To get the container 1 on to the lorry 5 each cylinder 22 is actuated to displace sideways the two pairs of vertical cylinders, which cylinders are then operated to raise the container off the ground into the position of Fig. 5. Lorry 5 is backed into the space shown and the fluid cylinders are then operated such that the vertical cylinders are drawn inwards and the legs 2C, 3C are retracted to allow the container 1 to sink down on to the platform 15 of the lorry. In this way the cylinders 22 centralize the container on the lorry and by means of the feet 3C, 4C grip the side of the lorry whilst the lugs 13, 12 engage between girders on the lorry.
