Abstract

1,189,186. Valves. K. ERB. 24 Oct., 1967, No. 48177/67. Heading F2V. A pressure relief valve comprises a housing 1, 2 having an inlet port and an outlet port 16, a piston member 6 biased against a seat 8 by a spring 4, and a diaphragm 7 of substantially uniform thickness, e.g. of lead, aluminium or silver, interposed between the member 6 and the seat, with an annular groove 11 so that, it can be ruptured at a predetermined pressure. The groove 11 can be V-shaped, rectangular, or tropezoidal in cross-section. A projection 12 on the member 6 locates the diaphragm during assembly. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the diaphragm is disposed between a piston member (25) and a closure member (27) which closes on to a seat (28) in the housing, the member (27) having an annular projection which locates in a groove (29) in the diaphragm. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the housing has an annular projection (38) around the piston which clamps the diaphragm in position and forms a groove therein.
