Abstract
1,160,618. Valves. PARKER-HANNIFIN CORP. 16 Oct., 1967, No. 46984/67. Heading F2V. A valve, adapted to control the state of a motor 18, comprises a main housing 24 having disposed therein a cartridge 28 and having mounted thereon a pilot valve assembly housing 27, the cartridge providing two inwardly extending flanges 29, 30 whose sides 45, 48 respectively constitute seat surfaces for two closure members 54, 55 mounted on a spindle 53 having a piston 9 at one end. The valve members are normally biased by a spring 73 to the position shown, in which the motor chamber 15 is cut-off from an inlet chamber 12 but communicates with an outlet chamber 14. To connect the motor to the inlet and to shut-off the outlet, a solenoid 89 is actuated so causing an armature 85 to move leftward against the bias of a spring 96 and thereby to open port 83, this permitting flow from the inlet to a piston chamber 88 via lines 74, 76, 77, 86 and 87, the piston and hence the valve members being thereby forced to move downwardly. To return the valve to its original state, the solenoid is de-activated and fluid pressure within the piston chamber 88 is relieved to atmosphere via line 86, chamber 84, line 94 and port 95. Alternatively the armature 85 can be moved by a manually rotatable element 97 having an eccentric projection 98. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), only one closure member is provided and this is normally biased against a second seat 49 formed on flange 30 but can be similarly moved to a second seat 46 formed on flange 29. In either embodiment, each valve member has bonded to its two sides resilient members 57 which serve to effect positive closure when brought against the seating surfaces.
