Abstract

Endless conveyer belts of the type wherein the belt is inclined transversely to the direction of travel and articles conveyed therealong abut a guide 3 at the lower edge of the belt and are discharged at selectable destination by pivoting gates 6 are modified in that the inclination of the belt is increased adjacent the gates to assist in said discharge. The belt may be supported by rollers 7 permanently mounted to increase the inclination of the belt adjacent each discharge gate. Alternately, Fig. 3 (not shown), the rollers may be coupled through a linkage to the discharge gate, so that on opening said gate the roller is pivoted about its lower end at 13 to increase the inclination of said belt. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), a bar (19) mounted on a framework (18) is in engagement with said belt. In a still further embodiment the roller may be eccentrically mounted or fluted to additionally vibrate the belt.
