Abstract
1,186,632. Discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Feb., 1968 [3 March, 1967], No. 9878/68. Heading H1D. The lead-in conductor and mechanical support 4 for an alkali iodide-containing discharge lamp 1 is screened over a substantial portion of its length by an electrically non-conducting material 8 which is substantially impervious to ultra-violet radiation. The material is preferably in the form of a tube of glass or ceramic material which consists of 94% by weight Al 2 O 3 and 6% by weight SiO 2 . The tube thickness is at least 2 mms., e.g. 5 mms. The tube filling is 60 mgs. of mercury, 3 mgs. of sodium iodide, 0À3 mgs. of thallium iodide and 0À06 mgs. of indium iodide per cm.<SP>3</SP>, and argon as an ignition gas at a pressure of 20 mm. Hg. The tube volume is 15 cm.<SP>3</SP> with an electrode separation of 50 mms.
